Week 5
APA Video
This week in class we were required to watch an educational video on the APA style of typing. The video was created by Stockton University and the class was taught by Tom Kluxen. I actually really enjoyed watching the video and learning all the tips and tricks for using APA. The video was full of useful information and it even shows you how to find a template for APA documents. As the video goes on, Tom explains what each part of your paper should look like and how to make it. It was pointed out that almost every SOBYL occupation and class use the APA style for writing documents. My major is in the category that uses the APA style of typing, so this video was very helpful on how to successfully type papers for my classes. The video also explains how to find trustworthy sources. They explain how to use the University's recourses through the library as well as google scholar. One of the most important things they said was that its always better to use non bias sources, as well as peer reviewed articles. These sources will allow you to find accurate and reliable information for studies or papers that you might have to complete. Overall, I thought the video was very helpful and I am definitely going to use the advice that the video game me.
Student Athletes on Social Media
Student athletes are very important in the educational society for the college scene. Colleges greatly rely on their sports teams to bring in high amounts of revenue. Not only can student athletes make a college prosper and flourish, they can also bring the school bad publicity. Many rising college athletes have their minds focused on getting to the professional level of their sport. They believe they can influence little kids and they love to make their voice heard about certain situations. Even though in their eyes it might seem like they are doing good, if they say one wrong thing, they can easily get themself in trouble with the school. The school can easily expel them or suspend them from their respected sport. They don't realize that the school is responsible for everything they say on social media and the schools will not prohibit content that is inappropriate for society. For years we have been seeing more and more careers ruined in college and on the professional level because these individuals speak their mind on social media. It feels good to be able to speak your mind about what you believe in but, these young athletes have to realize that they are representing huge organizations that want to bring in money. Many careers have been ruined because of social media and it is very important that student athletes become smarter with the way they hand social media. The young generation has a lot of hope and expectations, and it would be terrible to see so many kids mess up their futures.
OneNote's add-on for Dyslexic Students
Microsoft’s OneNote is one of the best note taking platform on the market today. They have hundreds of useful tools that help students from all educational levels learn and become more efficient with school work. Not only does it help the average student organize notes and schoolwork, but Microsoft has just created an add-on to help dyslexic students take notes. Dyslexic students can have a really hard time while proof reading their notes or papers to make sure that they didn't misspell anything. The new add-on allows the user to hit a button that will playback exactly what they have typed on the paper. This helps dyslexic students greatly because it allows them to listen instead of trying to read what they have typed. Dyslexia can really frustrate students because of the way the brain can mix up letters and words. This new add-on will take away the frustration from their learning disability.
