6 Things You Must Not Wear To a Job Interview
Interviews are very important and they are an essential part of any job application. It doesn't matter if you have amazing credentials or a degree from an amazing University, employers want to see the type of person you are. They want to know if you will fit in with their company and and the people that work that. Besides being a good speaker and someone that knows their stuff, dressing for the occasion is very important. One important thing to know is that you should never go into a job interview wearing something that is bright and flashy. If you wear something flashy, this could bring a lot of negative attention to you and it could hurt your chances of getting the job you want. Another important thing to know is that you should definitely stay away from clothes that are skin tight. You want to have a professional look and skin tight clothes give off an opposite impression. Along with skin tight clothes, you should also stay away from wearing too much scent. Strong scents can be overwhelming to a lot of people and you don't want to make people sick when you walk in the room. The most important thing you should do when dressing for an interview is a\make sure your clothes aren't wrinkled and never underdress. You want to look professional and don't want to look like you are going out to party or bar. Come prepared with professional clothes and be ready to impress.
Two Mistakes to Avoid In a Job Interview
Job Interviews can be very stressful and it can make a lot of people very nervous. There’s a lot of components that go into having a successful job interview and the most important one is talking. Employers are going to be able to tell if they want to hire you or not based on your ability to talk and how you cary yourself. One thing to avoid during an interview is talking too much. Talking too much in an interview can some times come off as being too confident and cocky. Employers want to see how well you can answer their questions in an efficient time. They want you to get out all the necessary information and still be able to have time to expand on it. You never want the employer cutting out some of the questions he planned on asking you because of how much you’re talking. Another thing to avoid is not talking enough. Employers don't want you to take the entire interview by talking about yourself but, they also want to know what type of person you are. If you don't talk enough then they won't be able to figure out wether you fit the job or not. It is good to find that healthy balance and to give out all the information they are seeking in an efficient time.
Always Send a Thank You Note After a Job Interview
Job interviews are the gateways into adult hood and finding yourself a career. You will never be able to find yourself a career if you can't master job interviews and get that job you've been going to school for. Sending a thank you note to the employer after an interview is something that can make or break your opportunity to get that job you’re striving for. You might have had a fantastic job interview but sending a thank you note after it is all done make be the one thing that makes you stand out from other applicants. Always make sure to thank them for their time and the opportunity they gave you for interviewing you for the job. This really makes you stand out and lets the employer that you really appreciate their time and that you really want the job. Sending a thank you note is something that can change the game and employers will definitely think about you for a second time when they see your name pop up in their inbox.
Light, Bright, and Polite
In chapter 7 of "Light, Bright, and Polite", the author talks about how to properly market your business without spending an insane amount of money. One thing that is very important is that you should never promote discounts on your product and you should always promote free upgrades. If you start discounting your products then the overall value of your products will seem like it isn’t worth as much to the consumers. Instead, give them a free upgrade and your consumers still have that high value expectation of your product. Another important thing is that you should celebrate your next big sale instead of just communicating with the consumers. If you just tell them that its a sale then they will look at it as a transaction. Instead, convince them that there is something to celebrate about and that there is a reason for this huge sale. You want to convince the consumer that they are celebrating with you. The author also says that video is on of the best ways to communicate to people and grab their attention. The only thing with a video that you have to be careful about is you have to make sure you properly relay the important elements of your message to the public. Being fast and being clear is key when grabbing people's attention with a video. One final thing you should do while trying to promote your products is using very descriptive words to describe your products. The human mind loves details and you want to be able to describe your products by using senses. Describe how it feels, smells, and how it looks, this will grab the person's attention and make them want to experience your product.
Casey Finestone
This week in class we had two guest speakers and one of them was Casey Finestone. Casey talked to our class about some very important things including interviews and how you are perceived on the internet. She couldn't help but stress enough about how important it is to make sure your social media is professional. She works for a very small company Script and the first thing she does before interviewing someone is look up who they are. She has said that they didn't even bother going through with some interviews because of what they saw on social media and they don't want certain types of people in their company. She said that it is very important to carry yourself in a professional way on social media because of how easy it is for companies to find your information. One other thing she stressed about is interviews. She said one of the most important things while going through an interview is really be professional. You never want to seem cocky or make jokes while being interviewed. The employer wants to see the type of person you are and they want to make sure you fit in with their team. She said that in your interviews it is very important to make sure you realize that the person interviewing you isn't your friend. They are your boss, and you have to be professional or else you won't get the job. Overall, Casey was a great guest speaker and she gave a lot of useful tips for interviewing. I will definitely be taking her advice when I go in for an interview in the future.
