week 2

"Light, Bright, and Polite" & Tour Builder

In the first chapter of "Light, Bright, and Polite", the author just gives some basic tips on how to ensure one is setting their social media platforms up in a way that won't hurt them later on in life.  One of the tips he gave was that he recommends that any post on social media should be no longer than 100 characters.  The reasoning for this is so your post can grab the attention of the reader right away.  People are also more likely to read something smaller in size rather than something that consists of multiple paragraphs.  The biggest thing the author stresses is that everyone has to be extremely careful what they post on social media, because companies and employers search up the names of their applicants and everyones social media posts can be found and seen.  Other then keeping your posts short and appropriate, it is also great to keep your political views neutral so that you don't offend anyone.

During last class, one of the assignments was to use a website called "Tour Builder".  The website enables the user to use punch in locations and write a description about the location.  One can put locations they've visited in chronological order to create a type of virtual tour.  I created my tour using locations of golf courses I played on the year.  Tour Builder is a really cool website and I recommend using this software for school projects or to keep memories of places you've visited.

Accessing Google Drive Offline

In the last twenty years Google has made ground breaking advancements as well as acquired countless of helpful software.  Google is one of the top companies in the world today and they continue to advance their company to help people out and maximize efficiency of their programs.  Besides their google search engine, the most used google software is Google Docs.  Google Docs allows people to write papers, articles, or anything that has to be typed out.  It also allows people to share their documents through links that can be sent through emails or text messages.  Once people get the link they have the ability to edit the document in real time at the same time as other people.  This feature gives Google an advantage over other competitors because they do not have this feature on their document software.  Google Drive has recently updated their software to allow users to use the drive while they don't have internet connection.  To do this, you have to first choose what files you would like to be backed up on the drive.  After you choose these files they will be downloaded onto the computer and then the files are able to be reached no matter where you are in the world.

Google Translate

Google Translate is very important tool that people use during their everyday lives.  Google Translate enables people to type or talk into the app and translate other languages into the language they speak.  This capability of the app will help people all over the world during meetings, peace treaties, jobs, and foreign policy.  No longer does someone have to worry about finding a translator or someone that speaks their language, they have all the power in the palm of their hand.  All one has to do is go to the app store on their device and download the app.  After that they can just select which language will be speaking into the phone and what language you would like it translated too.  The power is yours!

Chrome Extensions

There are many internet browsers that exist today, and it just so happens that Google Chrome happens to be one of the best ones.  Google Chrome has an option that allows the user to add tiny additions called add-ons.  These add-ons can be anything from finding you coupons to saving websites.  There are endless options that can make your internet surfing more enjoyable.  Sometimes on has to be careful when adding browser extensions because of the amount of extensions that are actually full of viruses.  One of the top extensions that is used is the Google Mail Checker.  Google Mail Checker puts a little envelope by your bookmarks and it shows you when you gets an email.  Another popular browser that has really grown in the last two years is the extension called "Honey".  Honey is an extension that searches the internet for coupons and discounts that can be added on to the item you are currently trying to buy.  Google Chrome has many useful tools and all it takes is a little exploration to find exactly what you want.
