Week 3

App Smackdown

    This week in our class we will be doing an interesting project called the "App Smackdown".  Everyone will be choosing an app that relates to their major and we will do a full app review on the app that we choose.  For this activity I chose the app called "Citizen".  "Citizen" is an app that allows people to interact with each other and report accidents as well as, shootings, kidnappings,  traffic stops, and fires.  The best way to describe the app is it is like instagram but for incidents that deal with first responders.  You can post pictures, videos, or live stream whatever incident is going on around you.  Not only does the app keep you updated on events that are happening around you, it also keeps you updated on the corona virus cases in your area.  Overall, I find this app very useful and I believe this app can save lives as well as protect people from the dangers of the outside world.

Browser Extensions That Make Docs Easier to Use

    Not only do browser extensions enhance one's internet browsing experience, but they can also make using Google Docs a whole lot easier and efficient.  One extension that really helps is the "Office Editing For Docs" extension.  It allows the user to drag and drop any Microsoft Office document into Google Docs and the extension automatically converts the document into a Google document.  This is very helpful because it is a pain in the butt converting documents over manually.  This extension will save a lot of time if you use Google Docs a lot.   

    Another great extension for Google Docs is the "Quick Drive" extension.  This extension essentially allows you to search your entire google drive for files you may need in an instant.  It is very useful if you are in the middle of a business meetings or teaching classes.  All one has to do is click the extension icon and a little window with a search bar pops up and you can quickly search for any of your files by searching keywords or phrases.  This allows you to stay connected to your business calls and quickly pull up important documents at the same time.

    One final extension that will change your life if you are a business person is, "Save Emails to Google Drive". This extension is also very useful if you are in a profession where you must investigate emails and report about them.  This extension allows the user to link their Gmail account and their Google Drive account into one folder.  Inside this folder, the user can save emails and convert them to PDF's or documents.  In my opinion it is a great extension to have.

Some of the Best Note Taking Apps

    Note taking is essential for learning in school, no matter what educational level one is on.  Especially during this time of the Corona Virus, everyone is pretty much learning over the internet, so they are many useful apps that can help you take notes.  One of the top note taking apps available right now is the app "Evernote".  This app supports audio, video, documents as well as allowing you to organize everything into their own folder.  The best feature this app has is the ability to access all your notes across different devices and web browsers.  Another app that is very efficient for note taking is "Microsoft OneNote".  This app is great because you can directly export and import documents and PowerPoints into your OneNote.  OneNote also supports handwritten notes if you are using a tablet.  It takes your handwritten notes and converts them into typed words on a document or you can choose to leave them as hand written.  Evernote and OneNote are the two best note taking apps available on the market right now.  They will help you efficiently take notes as well as keep everything organized.

Saving Emails to OneNote

    OneNote is a great software that has many uses to it.  Not only can you use OneNote take notes and organize all your data, but you can also save important emails and send them straight to your OneNote folders.  This is a very important feature to have because it allows you to back up important emails just in case your email gets hacked or becomes corrupt.  By sending your emails to OneNote, it allows those important emails to be saved forever and you never have ton worry about losing them.  All one has to do is sign in with an account that is associated with Microsoft Office and choose a destination for the emails to go.  Lastly, all you have to do is forward that email to me@onenote.com.  Now that email that forwarded to your OneNote will be saved forever and you don't have to worry about losing it.
